Central Point, Oregon is a small town in the Wallowa Valley region of Southern Oregon. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is located on U.S. Route 395, about 12 miles east of Bend and 15 miles northwest of Grants Pass. The name Central Point may be derived from the Central Oregon Trail, which passed through the town in 1847-48 when it was part of the Mormon Battalion that fought in California's Mexican War. In 1851 Central Point became a post office under US mail route 3. By 1860 it had a store, hotel and schoolhouse with an enrollment of 120 students and 30 faculty members from five schools in nearby Grant County. On July 4, 1862 Central Point was attacked by Confederate forces following the Battle of Monterrey; all but three residents were killed or wounded. At least two churches remain standing today: The Methodist Episcopal Church (1862) and Presbyterian Church (1868). In 1865 Central Point became part of what would become called "The Gold Rush Area" because gold was discovered there near Bend and other towns during that period of American history associated with prospecting for gold. During World War II many local businesses did their wartime production out-of-state to avoid exemptions from national income taxes that were then in effect; this resulted in increased business activity around Bend during peacetime as well as wartime shortages which created prices hikes for essentials like gasoline and food at local stores.

Central Point, Oregon is a small town located in the Portland metropolitan area, about an hour's drive from downtownPortland. Central Point was founded in 1871 by pioneer farmers who settled near the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. The community grew rapidly after railroads reached Central Point in 1887. The early settlers were largely Baptist missionaries and their families who established churches and schools. By 1900, Central Point had a population of 2,000 people and developed into a major agricultural center with market gardens, fruit orchards, dairy farms, and cattle ranching operations. In 1925, Central Point became part of Portland when it was annexed by the city. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, many westerners moved to Oregon to escape Spanish occupation during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). Many central Oregonians also migrated to Portland because it offered more opportunities for education and work than did rural areas back east. The growth of Portland led to increased competition for jobs in CentralPoint as well as for land around town. In response, some local farmers began to sell their land west of Interstate 5 to developers looking for new industrial sites. This development created problems for CentralPoint because it lost its farmland base while becoming surrounded by high-rise buildings and shopping malls. In recent years, however, some residents have startedto revive interest in the community based on its unique history and attractions such as its restored historic courthouse which houses a museum on American Indian culture
Central Point was founded in 1847 by AMD prospectors. In the 1870s, Central Point became a thriving lumber town because of its excellent logging resources. The town prospered until the 1906 San Francisco earthquake destroyed much of downtown,roying most of the buildings and mills that had sustained Central Point for generations.
