Canby is an unincorporated community in Douglas County, Oregon, United States. It is located on the south bank of the Willamette River and its ZIP code is 97382. Its population was 1,838 at the 2000 census. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Douglas County were families from British Columbia who arrived in 1853 and named their land "Canby." The first post office called Canby was established in 1871, but it did not open until 1872. Canby grew slowly through the early years because there was no railroad access to the area. However, with the construction of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (later renamed I-5) in 1915, Canby became a major center for grain shipments west of Portland. During World War II, Canby was one of several small communities along I-5 that were used asening grounds for aircraft manufacturing activities at nearby Renton Airport. Consequently, it experienced high levels of military activity during World War II: More than 100 buildings were erected in or near Canby during that time; many of these structures remain today as part of Tranmere Regional Park. In recent decades, Canby has become a popular tourist destination due to its great history and interesting architecture. One highlight of recent visitor activity has been the restoration of historic homes around town as part of a series called "Historic Home Restoration Days."

The first settlers arrived in 1851, and Canby was founded in 1867 as the result of a land grant from the Oregon Territory government. It became a incorporated town in 1907. Canby’s economy relies heavily on agriculture and ranching; today it has two main businesses: one as a bedroom community for nearby Portland, and another that produces agricultural products such as hay, eggs, milk, cheese and apples. Canby is served by three schools: Canbyside Elementary School (grades K-8), Canbyside Middle School (9-12), and Central High School (13-18). There are also several churches within easy driving distance: First Baptist Church & Bible Center (Church Street), Holy Cross Church (Willamette Avenue), Sacred Heart Catholic Church (12322 N Main Street) and Our Lady Of Guadalupe Parish Hall & Storefront (5th Avenue South).

The purpose of this paper is not to discuss the individual design or type of holster, but to provide an overview of the history and development of holster manufacturers. Holster manufacture began in earnest during the 1800s as Leatherneck Holstersmiths created simple, utilitarian holsters for use with pistols. In 1892, Purdy Brothers started manufacturing their own pistols, which led to their creation of the world’s first quality leather-covered pistol holster (the Purdy Belt Buckle Holster). By 1905, all major handgun manufacturers were producing holsters beneath license from several different leather-manufacturing companies. As technology improved and new firearm models became available, more sophisticated holster designs were developed by various manufacturers. One such company was Hecht & Wesson who produced a line of “tactical” handguns that utilized a belt clip on the side of the gun for attaching it to trousers or overalls. This design allowed shooters to dress in whatever clothing they wished without having to worry about losing their firearms or having them stolen again. In 1938 Rock Island Armory introduced what would become known as the “Rock Island Standard” model revolver holster which featured an integral dogbone waistband and adjustable retention buckle system. This innovative design allowed shooters to modify fit according to personal preferences while remaining reliable and secure against unauthorized access or theft. Additionally, this model offered one of the earliest protection devices ever made against sandpaper damage - within two years after its introduction it had been replaced by updated versions that incorporated metal reinforcement around both sides of the webbing connecting shoulder straps and back panel (the modern day rock island standard model has retained these features throughout its history). Throughout World War II many American soldiers adopted European-made holsters in order facilitate carry with ease on battlefields across many different theaters; however due in part to wartime production shortages these holsters received only limited attention from western manufacturers until well into postwar years until finally becoming available once again during post-war era through experimentation by somegunmakers under license from Ruger & Co.. During this time period there also emerged several minor companies that manufactured custom designed holsters specifically for law enforcement officers including JB Customs Inc., Custom Gunsmithing (now owned by H&K), Tactical Technology Solutions (TTS) & Carry America Firearms Corporation (CARFCOM). These companies enjoyed significant popularity among law enforcement personnel due in part to their innovative Designs & materials used which often combine SWAT/counterterrorism gear components with classic NRA style gunsights/straps etc.. However stability within these industry sectors eventually dissipated following wide spread economic recession early 2000’s which caused major reductions in customer demand coupled with increased competition from imports .

The Canbys were early settlers in the area and are buried in the town's cemetery. Canby was originally known as "Canby Landing." In 1853, Captain John Canby and his brother-in-law, James McNary, built a log cabin on the current site of Canby. The original millinery shop and blacksmith Shop operated at this location for about 15 years. In 1861,Captain John Canby donated land to build a school. A new school was built on this property by 1870. In 1912, CANBY post office became operational; it has been closed twice since then. The first store building constructed in Canby was a two-story frame structure with a gable roof that housed a grocery store and two general stores during its time as an established business district in the community . This building burned down in 1909 but was replaced by the present store building which served as the local telephone exchange until 1984 when it became part of Oregon Bell Telephone Company's system

By 1865, Canby had a population of 100 people and nine stores. In 1876, Canby became part of the district of Cornelius which Included Portland. The first post office in town was established in 1877, and in 1886, Canby became a city. Canby's economy changed during World War II when many residents relocated to Portland for work in the munitions manufacturing plants that were set up throughout Oregon during the war. After the war, Canby lost its status as a city but regained some popularity due to its proximity to downtown Portland. In recent years, however, Canby has been struggling economically due to increased competition fromPortland and other nearby cities.
