During World War II, many local businesses participated in production or supplied materials related to military projects such as tanks and planes; including Tractor Supply Co., Pacific Paper Products and United States Rubber Company among others can be found throughout town center business districts during wartime times with names like "Canby Works" or "Flamingo Workshop." Many businesses closed after hostilities ended but some have since reopened including: American Weigh Lifters which closed in 1984 but reopened as an equipment dealership/commercial storage facility last year; Big Daddy's BBQ which closed down earlier this year but has since re-opened under new ownership; Pumpkin Patch Cooperative Store which converted into apartments earlier this year; Hastings Hardware store which closed down earlier this year but has since reopened as a restaurant - all within walking distance of one another making it easy for locals to get their food needs met without having too much effort .

The town declined during World War II due to wartime restrictions on trade with Japan and Germany; however, its rebirth as an important commercial center began once those restrictions were lifted. In recent decades, Canby has seen increased development around its downtown area as well as new housing developments nearby; these have helped keep the town active despite some declining trends over time.
