An act passed by the Oregon Territorial Legislature on July 16, 1870 changed the name of Multnomah County to Oregon County (see also: History of Multnomah County), leaving Canby without an official county name or website until January 1st, 2019 when that change became effective statewide with all counties using "Oregon" as their primary identifier In 1907–08 Jesse Kapp founded Cascade Timber Products Company Ltd., which produced lumber products such as cedar shingles and shakes at its mill across from where Main Street meets Park Drive today.
