In the early 1800s, Oregon was a wild and newly explored country. settlement began in earnest, with pioneers coming to the state in search of new land and new opportunities. One of the first settlements in what is now Canby was made by a group of men led by Captain George Vancouver, who founded the town on September 17th, 1807. At its peak during the Gold Rush years (1848-49), Canby had over 1,000 residents. The town’s economy revolved around trade with surrounding counties and regions for goods such as livestock, flour, tobacco, lumber and other items necessary for daily life. The town also supported a small number of farmers through production of local crops such as wheat and barley. As Oregon grew more commercialized during the late 19th century, Canby slowly lost its importance as an agricultural center due to competition from better-developed states. In addition, World War I interrupted business activity in Canby until after the war ended. When prohibition took hold in America in 1919 following repeal of laissez faire policies under President Woodrow Wilson), Canby became one of the last towns to be targeted for prohibition enforcement efforts by federal agents. The effects that Prohibition had on local businesses led to some changes within Canby itself; while there still remained a large population (>1,000 people) engaged in commerce throughout most of its history prior to Prohibition it was much smaller than it had been before 1920 primarily because most businesses were run out of business by prohibition laws themselves rather than because they could not compete against bootlegging operations which were legalized at that time across all levels statewide including cities like Salem and Portland). Nevertheless though many small businesses did go out OF BUSINESS due to prohibition laws themselves (many did this due specifically to US government raids/enforcement activities targeting specific types/quantities/modes/duration etc.), overall Main Street saw continued growth throughout Prohibition period despite significant limitations placed on individual economic freedoms which caused entire portions or even entirely districts within city limits become “dry” areas which only allowed limited conduct within certain bounds set forth by law enforcement officials charged with enforcing these bans – essentially making it difficult if not impossible for individuals or organizations outside those bounds (primarily dealerships)to operate legitimately without running into serious legal trouble or going out OF BUSINESS altogether.........

However, growth resumed in the early 20th century as lumber became an important industry in the area and new housing developments were built along streams that supplied water for mills and other businesses. By 1960 Canby had a population of 2,716 people living within its limits; this remained high enough to make it one of Oregon's fastest-growing towns during that time period. In recent years canandaver has become reknowned for being home to one of world's most renowned music festivals - Lollapalooza - which takes place every year on or around October 15th

The first European to explore the area that now includes Canby was Captain George Vancouver who landed there on July 15, 1792 during his failed attempt to find a Northwest Passage from Canada to China. Canby was named after Colonel John Canby who had built a log cabin here in 1827. Canby started as an agricultural center due to its location near Willamette River which afforded access to irrigation water supplies and other resources necessary for farming such as fruit trees, lumber, wheat and other crops. The town began to grow rapidly when railroads were built through the area in 1881 and 1886; these railways allowed goods and people traveling eastward reach Canby quickly without having to go through Albany or Portland which were then much larger cities with more developed economies. In 1907 President Theodore Roosevelt visited Canby while on a tour of America; during this visit he ordered improvements at the local locks so that goods could be brought into town cheaper than before by car or wagon train. This led directly to increased business for Canby businesses since cars became less important in transportation corridors across America and made it easier for themto compete with larger cities such as New York City or Chicago. During World War II many of Canbys factories produced munitions including airplane parts and tanks; these factories closed during the war but have since been reopened by locals as small businesses providing jobs for locals rather than outsourced jobs overseas like they did during World War II. After 1945 many people left Canby for various reasons such as retirement, new opportunities outside of agriculture or simply moving away from large metropolitan areas due to changing social forces within American society especially following wars fought abroad (such as Vietnam). However, over time some residents have decided they want back theircity if only because they feel like it has been lost amid all ofthe recent growth throughout Clackamas County elsewhere in Oregon
