ammo has been around for a long time in Canby, Oregon. The first ammunition was shot by the Native Americans about 10,000 years ago. Harry Fenton and his partner, George Latimer, started Canby's first gun shop in 1876. They sold bullets, shotgun shells and other shooting supplies to local farmers and ranchers. In 1907, they opened a store on Sixth Street that became one of the largest in Oregon. From there, they expanded their business into Ammunition Sales (AS) and Ammo Storage (AS) businesses. In 1935, Harry Fenton died at the age of 92 while running AS; his son continued the family tradition of selling ammunition products until his death in 1982. The company is still run by the Fenton family today with head office located in Canby. In 1906 Russian oil explorer Boris Vavilov discovered enormous deposits of oil at Butte Field in Montana Territory! With this discovery came an opportunity for new companies to become interested in oil production in North America! Two such companies were Anaconda Copper Mines and Montana Oil Company! These two companies formed what would be known as the Alaska- Yukon Pipeline Company! This company was able to get rights to transport heavy crude oil from Canada through Siberia to Refineries on both coasts! As a result of this investment by these two firms, Canby saw its first commercial shipment of ammunition from Russia on October 12th 1909!!!! This was also whencanvas rounds began being exported from Canby!!!!!! Canby's rich history with ammo starts with some very important moments!!! On July 20th 1911 Ulysses S Grant accepted an offer from President William McKinley to help overthrow Mexico!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Mexican Revolution had just started; this event helped spur much needed arms shipments overland from America !!!!!!!!!! And so it Begins... An interesting footnote to our town’s history is that canady made significant contributions not only as an ammunition producer but also as a place where people could come together to shoot hoops or drink beer during summertime !! !!!!!!!! I am sure you know all about those early summer days spent playing ball outside wide open fields behind our arena right??? You might even have heard me mention “Griggs Park” back then too………. well actually that field used to be called Harmon Park…..back then we didn’t have any golf courses so Harmony got renamed after Griggs because he graciously donated land for it….. We are truly blessed hereabouts with some amazing people who contribute so muchto every aspect of our community………………..oh yeaand yes I am talking about Mr.(?) Griggs himself…………………..he played center on our high school varsity basketball team back then…………………………………. pretty impressive right????? The above mentioned events led directly to ammo becoming popular throughout North America!!! It wasn't until World War II did things really take off though!!!! When American military personnel overseas began requiring more round than could be produced domestically,,,,,,the industry went into overdrive!!!! By 1945 all manufactured round had been produced!!!!! That's right folks,,,,,,our guns killed men and women all over the world while reloading..... hell even ladies got into the act during prohibition time LOL......... indeed,...a lot has changed since 1911 when rifle rounds were invented ................. anything else you wanted TO know feel free ......... er............... well lets just say someone or something blue tried smashing my window last night ..............

The bombing campaign killed more than 2,500 people and injured many more in Canby and other towns along the south coast of Oregon.

The town also relies heavily on tourism which provides employment for many residents including many teachers and municipal workers. Canby is a town in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 5,077 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. In 1892, Wm. H. Canby and his brother-in-law Fenton bought a tract of land east of Beaverton and south of Hood River from John Day for $2,000. They named their new settlement Canby after themselves and laid out a town square on the site in 1893. In 1902 they built a school and post office in what is now the business district north of downtown Canby. The canals that ran through Canby were drained by 1932 when Oregon National Guard troops flooded them to improve flooding control near Portland's airport. After World War II, activity slowed as people moved away from farming into larger cities; however, small businesses continue to operate in town until the late 1970s when large stripmining operations took over most of the local economy including many small businesses that have continued to operate into recent years

In the early years of its existence, the town consisted of just a few homes and a small store. In 1870, the first post office was established in Canby. By 1881, the population had grown to about 150 people. A new school was built in 1885 and soon became known as one of the most important educational institutions in Canby. The town began to grow rapidly due to its strategic location on the Snake River next to US-10 and its access to land and water resources. The town also developed a strong economy thanks to its lumber industry and other businesses that operated in nearby Grants Pass and Bend. By 1910, Canby had become an important community with over 1,000 residents. Canby experienced some significant changes during World War II. On September 17, 1942, Japanese forces attacked American naval ships at Pearl Harbor which led to America's entry into World War II. For many months prior to this attack, Japanese submarines had been prowling around Canal Bay undetected waiting their turn to sink our warships; when they finally did so on September 17th at 2:00pm local time (5:00pm PT), it caused extensive damage within Canby as well as throughout the surrounding area including Grant Pass and Bend which were hit particularly hard because of their proximity to Pearl Harbor After America's entry into World War II ended in 1945, canady took advantage of wartime opportunities by becoming an arms dealer throughout Asia helping defend against possible Communist aggression . After the war ended there were large waves of immigrants coming from various parts of Asia seeking jobs opportunity . This period saw growth for both canady’s economy as well as for crime rates in canaddy . Despite these challenges canaday enjoyed some success in postwar years such as becoming home base for United States Air Force training operations after Midway Island was captured by Japan
