In the early 1800s, Bend was a sleepy town in Oregon. However, within a few decades it had become one of the most important gun-producing and -importing centers in the United States. The main reason for this transformation was twofold: first, guns were becoming more and more important as a source of self-defense; and second, America's growing industrialization made it necessary to have reliable sources of firearms parts and ammunition. By doing so, gun barrels produce heat that melts the alloy between the projectile and the barrel. In addition, new designs emerged which relied on firing projectiles faster than traditional cannonballs- this necessitated even longer barrels!

Bend, Oregon is a small town in the U.S. state of Oregon and is located on the Snake River between central Oregon and Nevada. The population was 7,611 at the 2010 census, down from 8,043 at the 2000 census. It is part of Bend-Eugene-Lake Oswego metropolitan area. The first Europeans to sight what is now Bend were Spanish fur traders working along the Columbia River in search for new routes to China and India in 1795-97. A year later, Captain George Vancouver explored this region on his return trip from North America and named it after Sir John Franklin's ship HMS Erebus which had sunk near present day Vancouver Island in 1804. In 1825, Joseph Bonney discovered gold near present day Bend while exploring the Columbia River Gorge upstream from today's town of Bendigo (at that time part of what was called Butte County). After a few days exploration he decided not to pursue the find as there were no immediate prospects for gold around hereabouts. In 1841 Jedediah Smith founded Fort Hall on an elevation abovepresent day Bendigo about 12 miles (19 km) east of today's town center. He built a stockade and began trading with Indians along his route to found “Oregon’s Golden West” as he called it; but soon realized that he could never establish himself permanent among these people because they lacked any type of economy or political structure other than their traditional hunting & gathering methods. With little else available for him to do except try farming or trade goods with nearby tribes, Smith abandoned Fort Hall in 1842 and returned home via Tahoe Pass over the Sierra Nevadas into California where he met Mexican President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who invited him back into Mexico City where he organized a party including Kit Carson (the future Ulysses S Grant), Meriwether Lewis (a white man then living among Native Americans), James Kiefer (Wyoming politician), David Thompson (British explorer)and two guides named John Brougham & Henry Halleck within weeks of arriving – all under cover of darkness on October 11th1842 – when Mexican forces expelled American settlers from Texas across Santa Fe Trail leading out from Albuquerque NM northward through Old Mexico toward Tucson AZ! This event led directly to American independence as Mexico ceded US soil east of El Paso ABQ to USA effective February 14th1848! The next decade saw some dramatic changes as various companies scrambled for control over this newly minted country during its fledgling presidency by Cesar Chavez (founder/presidential candidateof United Farm Workers Union aka “ farmworkers organization”1969-1970)), Woodrow Wilson Jr., Franklin D Roosevelt JR., Lyndon Johnson Sr., Richard Nixon Jr.–the last being impeached twice before dying in office after having been convicted only once due to evidence that he had lied about his participation in Watergate scandal! The early 1970s also saw heavy growth throughout much Western nations following decimalization/Unionization efforts spearheaded by presidents Richard Nixon Sr./Lyndon Johnson Jr.–doubling as one half percent GDP per capita by 1973!! In agriculture alone beef production increased 50%, pork 30%, wheat acreage tripled, cotton output quadrupled etc.; although rates have slowly begun trending downward since then due primarily due to overall economic challenges facing many agricultural based economies across much OFW Nations!!
