In 1885, settlers founded what became Beaverton when they moved from Vancouver, British Columbia to help develop the area around present-day Beaverton. The first white settler arrived in 1887 and named it Creek City because of its location on a creek that emptied into the Snake River near present-day Beaverton. The town grew quickly due to its location by an important water route and its access to minerals and timber. By 1907, transportation had improved enough foravers to build a sawmill and storehouses within what is now downtown Beaverton. The town's growth continued until World War II when it fell victim to cotton production shortages caused by droughts in California. After war ended, businesses reopened and Beaverton regained some of its former popularity as a bedroom community for Portland residents who wanted easy access to jobs in south Portland or northPortland during peak employment times
Bevorton, Oregon was founded in 1865 by George W. Beaver and his brother-in-law, John C. Fremont. The city was named for George Washington Beaver, the first United States president to be born in Oregon. early settlers in Bevorton included fur traders and missionaries who came from California and other parts of the United States in search of new land to explore.
