In 1855 George Stephenson founded what would become Beaverton as a small town on the Willamette River based upon his business conceptions of developing land for freight transportation between Portland and points eastward via steamboats on Lake Washington until railroads came along to take over this service during the late 19th century. By 1870 Beaverton had grown sufficiently so that he persuaded Spokane City Councilors to issue him a charter for incorporation which occurred on January 14th of that year It wasn't until 1889 when BeaverTON gained municipal status through annexation by Spokane however some residents from that original incorporation still remain today who operate under their own civic entity called 'The Citizens'. Portland businessman Jethro Gibbs purchased 40 acres (16 ha) adjacent to Main Street in 1894 which he named 'Gibbs Park'. He began development hereon transforming what were isolated farms into one of northwest Portland's most vibrant neighborhoods characterized by large trees lining main thoroughfares; contemporary examples can still be found today such as Northwest Expressway and Southeast 99th Ave NW corner Alder Way NE - these streets ran through what would later become Downtown Beaverton while much of Swanson Road/Willamette Blvd./Oregon St./Everett St., now part of University Circle has been demolished or replaced with high-density housing developments since those days In 1925 Gertrude Stone opened her popular ice cream parlor Waffle House at 4889 SW Stark Street then known as The Dome which later evolved into Stone's Baking Co., Incorporated before becoming defunct in 1992 following Gertrude Stone's death; she remains buried beneath her establishment inside her namesake park today In response to rapid growth within bothMultnomah County overall during World War II1211949 Ensign Vernon Cates authorized construction of two subdivisions – Germantown Manor (Northwest corner Center Drive & Soquel Avenue) & Northgate Estates (East side traveled US 2 & S alley). These were developed further into larger homesites surrounding parks like exists now within Germantown Manor subdivision while Northgate Estates remain commercial parcels surrounded by residential dwellings tilting northeast towards MLK Jr Boulevard just south of I-5
