When people think of shooters, they likely conjure up images of Clint Eastwood in "The Dirty Dozen" or the leads in "The Silence of the Lambs." However, there was a time when Beaverton had its own share of gunmen. The city was once home to at least five different Shooters' Clubs that operated out of local businesses and homes. In 1924, Beaverton's first shooting club was formed by two men who were looking to improve their marksmanship skills. Even though it didn't last long, this early example of firearms training in Beaverton is significant for two reasons. First, it marked the beginning of firearms education being offered in Oregon as a whole and secondly, it showed that shooters could exist outside of urban areas. Despite the fact that Beaverton wasn't always filled with firearms enthusiasts, there were still some notable instances where gunfire was conducted within its boundaries. For example, on July 15th 1923 a group of teenagers led by 19-year-old Harry Weems shot and killed four people after raiding the home of business partner John Hultman. Similarly, on May 6th 1934 a group consistingof six boys shoot and kill three adults before wounding another person inside a store in downtown Beaverton. Although these shootings didn't necessarily involve shootings within city limits, they do illustrate how firearm use could potentially escalate into dangerous situations without any prior warning. In 1977, one year after Oregon became an state*, Beaverton's Shooters Club merged with another nearby club to form the current Beavers Firearms Club*. This merger gave rise to several questions about how gun control laws would affect firearms activity within the city limits* (*Although guns were not actually banned outright during this period). One issue that immediately came up was whether or not shooters would be able to purchase handguns outside of the clubs* (*This rule changed later when CCW permits started becoming available). The answer to this question proved difficult to determine as no records existed which indicate whether or not shotguns or rifles were also purchased outside of those clubs*. Ultimately*, while gun control laws may have played an important role in shaping firearm use within Beaverton over time*, such information is difficult to extract from official records* *. Despite lack thereof*, data from earlier years does give us insight into what typesof activities took place within city limits back then and how certain groups behaved towards one another*. For example, during 1925-1926 there was an intense rebellion against police brutality taking place throughout Oregon (specifically among black residents)*. As a result,. many shootings occurring within city limits took on increased importance*. Additionally(*although not exclusively), meetings between Shooters' Clubs and law enforcement officials were often used for training purposes.* [*One such meeting occurred on October 2nd 1925*]. It should be noted that although these meetings may have been used for more than just shooting practice*, they did serve as important occasions where members could come together and discuss ways to improve relations between themselves and authorities.

Beaverton was founded by George H. Beal on Dec. 4, 1885, as a small farming community located in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley. The town quickly grew and became a major transportation hub for the surrounding agricultural region. In 1925, Beaverton joined the city of Portland and grew increasingly important within the local economy. The population reached 100,000 in 1950 and peaked at 150,000 in 1990. By 2000, the population had shrunk to under 50,000 and is now facing significant stagnation.
