Beaverton, Oregon is a city located in the Willamette Valley of northern Oregon. It was founded in 1876 by George Morrison and named for the Beaver River. The population of Beaverton reached 44,000 in 1990. The city has experienced rapid growth over the past few decades and now stands at over 200,000 residents. Beaverton is home to many large businesses and parks as well as several universities, including Portland State University and Oregon Health & Science University. The rise of Beaverton The first settlers to what is now Beaverton wereGeorge Morrison and his son John Morrison. They arrived on horseback from Illinois in 1876 and started a small farm east of town. By 1890, they had built a brick house on North Main Street that served as the town's headquarters until 1899 when it was relocated to its current location. In 1909, Portland City Council decided that Beaverton should become its own municipality with its own government and police force. The vote was 8-0 with Mayor Charles Walthall dissenting because he felt that Beaverton would not be able to support itself without help from Portland. In 1911, the first election for mayor was held and George Morrison won with 54% of the vote against challenger Harry Sifakis'. Over time, Beaverton became known for its craft beers (which are still produced today), progressive politics, outdoor activities (including hiking/biking/surfing), arts & culture (particularly music & theater), nightlife (especially along Northeast First Avenue), shopping malls, professional sports teams (such as the Blazers/Blazers or NBA’s Grizzlies), AND high school baseball!

The mayoral election held on November 3rd resulted in Democrat Bob Bates becoming mayor while Republican Bruce Harrell won re-election as Mayor pro tempore. On January 2nd 2017 Bob Bates announced his candidacy for re-election as mayor but he was defeated by Harrell 54%-46%.

PSU followed suit with its own medical school (nowOregon Health & Science University) in 1928 and Law School (nowPortland State University School of Law) in 1930 before becoming fully accredited by The AACSB in 1957 In 1958, PSU merged with Western Oregon Agricultural College to form Willamette Valley Community College District; this district served as both system's governing body and source for resources such as money for research and technology transfer into other colleges within our district while also providing day-to-day operations such as library services, student dormitories/facilities, physical plant maintenance/repair work etc.. Today Willamette Valley Community College District continues its service function by being responsible for all aspects related to education including enrollment data management systems (eXtreme Learning Solutions), financial aid programs (Financial Aid Services), student services (Student Affairs), marketing/communications initiatives (/what we do/ makes us unique/) The City of Beaverton annexed portions of eastern Hood River County on January 1st 1974 following a request from Hood River County Commissioners John Ahern III & Don Bacon pursuant to Chapter 624A RCW which authorizes annexation when “a municipality has attained or threatens” its goal or purpose set forth herein: To provide economic opportunity through comprehensive planning efforts that include comprehensive review of land use patterns within boundaries drawn thereunder; To improve public transportation options within commuting distance; And To provide environmental benefits through acquisition or redevelopment adjacent property
