During World War II much of what today makes up downtown was destroyed by bombing raids while much of North Broadway remained intact giving rise to the nickname "Naval Boulevard." After 1945 most manufacturing left town but some new businesses began up including computer companies like Intel and Microsoft while many old buildings turned into apartments or condos until they all came down during the wrecker-ball years associated with Mayor Chuck Norris' efforts during his last term to Save downtown BeaverTON!
