Beaverton is a city in Oregon, United States. The population was 15,806 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Multnomah County. The city was founded in 1871 by Scandinavian immigrants as a mill town on the east side of the Willamette River. In 1905, it became the second city in Oregon to be incorporated as a result of state legislation passed that year. The first guns were brought over from Norway in 1859 and used for hunting deer and other game within the city limits. By 1870, gun manufacturing had become an important aspect of Beaverton's economy and social life. A section of downtown called "The Arsenal", which stood between Fourth and Fifth streets NW, served as a Arms Manufacturing District during much of this time. Gunmakers employed hundreds of people throughout Beaverton during its early years - many who still reside there today (around 200). In 1907, when Multnomah County was created from part of Oregon Territory, Beaverton became its county seat. At that time, handguns were not legal to purchase or possess within Multnomah County limits so firearms manufacturer John Brown & Co., Incorporated moved their operations out intoMultnomah County and continued to produce pistols under their original name until 1921 when they changed it back to Browning Arms Corporation effective 1/1/1921 following company incorporation into Washington State Company v Multnomah County Commissioners Case No 305 UBI Gun manufacturers such as Browning soon found themselves at odds with local governments over ordinances regulating firearm possession and use within their jurisdictions; this eventually led to government regulation (meaning controlled manufacture)of all firearms by 1933 when Congress enacted National Firearms Act § 922(a) This act placed restrictions on arms dealers and manufacturers who could not sell weapons directly to consumers but must get them through licensed dealers By 1934 both private individuals (individuals buying handguns privately)and local governments had banned handgun possession statewide; this effectively ended gun production in Oregon After World War II came an era where crime rates began dropping throughout America while violent crime increased nationally prominent Portland-based gangsters began trafficking guns into California via Mexico City- based straw buyers looking for smuggled American made machineguns known as "straw purchases"

During World War II, most of Beaverton's manufacturing took place within the city limits of Portland; however, some factories did production outside ofPortland including Grumman Aircraft Corporation's Animal later plant and Bell Helicopter Company's Station Building plant. In 1945, local businessmen donated land for what would become Roseburg High School; construction began in 1947 and it opened in 1951. In 1957–58, an expanding industrial park was built north of downtown around Interstate 5 and State Route 97B; this became known as "The Northwest Zone". Southwest Airlines had its headquarters at Airport Road/Oregon Route 97 until 1984 when it moved to Portland’s O’Hare International Airport From 1962 until 1990, United Parcel Service operated UPS Ground service from Terminal 1 adjacent to Cascade Mall across from PSU's Great Hall campus; these services were eventually discontinued due to competition from FedEx Ground operations at Portland International Airport . As growth slowed throughout the 1990s and 2000s in Southeast Asia and elsewhere there was pressure for Beaverton to join forces with neighboring municipalities such as Hillsboro or Salem to form a "Tri-city" effort called CascadesWest which failed because each municipality wanted its own responsibility for transportation access and economic development . On January 15th 2006 Beaverton voters passed Measure 9 which re-established city government with three levels: Mayor/Councilmember with power over all aspects of City government including zoning approval & enforcement; Plus A Director responsible for Economic Development & Neighborhood Services who reports directly to the Mayor/Councilmember . This change created much debate within City Government about how bestto serve those living within walking distance of City hall while also accommodating growth that has occurred outside of City limits . After much deliberation it seemed that a new Downtown Area could be established with retail space located between First Avenue North (now University Boulevard) and Second Avenue North (now Lombard Street); office space would be located around John Firth Plaza ; public gardens would occupy part of Whatcom Park ; light rail service would connect downtown with Wallowa County via Southwest Corridor
