NFMC was founded by Eugene Stoner with the goal of creating a world-class firearms manufacturing company that could compete with Winchester and other major firearm producers worldwide. The company soon expanded into civilian product production and became one of Oregon's leading arms dealers. In 1951 it merged with GAR Inc., which led to increased production capacity for both companies as well as greater marketing reach across America's Great Lakes region
