In early 1900s, the Oregon Territory was home to a small community called Ashland. The town was located on the banks of the Klamath River and was known for itsgunsmithing and rifle shooting practices. In 1892, an American gold miner named John Sutter discovered what would become Ashland while prospecting in the area. Sutter named his new town after himself, and soon enough, Ashland became a thriving local trade center. The Gun Club of Oregon Incorporated in 1903 started meeting at the old post office in Ashland to shoot rifles. The club quickly became one of the most popular shooting organizations in Oregon. By 1910, they were using 12-gauge shotguns and had established a clubhouse that could seat up to 25 people. They also hosted statewide matches that year. In 1912, another American gold miner by the name of George Hargrave moved intoAshland and started setting up his own mines in nearby Butte County. He began purchasing land around Ashland to develop it as a mining town. By 1916,Hargrave had built several residences and businesses withinAshland itself including a store, hotel, gunpowder mill, water works plant, sawmill and more. It wasn’t until 1922 when he formally incorporated asthe Oregon Mining Company with himself as its president and John Fenton as secretary/treasurer/promoter At first glance it may seem like Hargrave only wanted to establish himself withinAshLAND confines – but he actually saw this opportunity to expandmining operations all throughout eastern Oregon By 1924 Hargrave had acquired over 1 million acres across southeasternOregon He continued expanding into new areas such asWashington state where he founded Gold Hill Mines which later produced gold coins Throughout these years Hargrave never lost sight of his dream of establishing an extensive mining empire in easternOregon

However, many local businesses continue to operate despite low wages or no benefits; this gives locals an opportunity to grow their own businesses rather than relying on outside sources for income. In 1884, lumber companies started mining near town and began clearcutting forests that had been home to many ash trees for centuries. This led to an increase in air pollution from burning logs, which made Ashland one of the most polluted cities in America by 1893. To address this issue, Mayor George Beall developed a policy called "No logging without permits" which prohibited any new logging within city limits except for special circumstances such as research or development purposes. In 1907–08, local activist William Sattler organized an all-night peaceful campaign against tree cutting that culminated with a sit-in at City Hall demanding protection from future logged areas within city limits. This event helped spark a municipal rebellion against timber company control that eventually ended with Beall's resignation two years later; he was replaced by mayor Elihu Rooter. From 1902 until 1939ashlanders raised corn on their family farmsteads south of downtown; during World War II they produced hay for military use and manufactured munitions plants northeast of town along Interstate 5 (the only major highway through Clackamas County then). After 1945 ashlanders increasingly relied on transportation links provided by Interstate 5 rather than homegrown resources to get their goods and services; this has led to some nickname terms like "I5town." By 2000 only 2% of residents still lived on their farms while 98% resided within city limits; however there are now efforts underway to revive agriculture as a mainstay of community life outside of Downtown Ashland proper

Ashland was founded in 1847 by John Ash and his wife Catharine. The town grew rapidly, becoming a center for agriculture, lumbering, and manufacturing. In the late 19th century, Ashland became known as the " flowers of Oregon." The city hosted the regional fairs beginning in 1916 and remains one of its most popular tourist destinations today.
