Boydell was responsible for developing new methods of manufacturing shot, powder and cannonballs. His factory became one of the most successful in America during its time. The Boydell Factory produced over 1 million rounds of Shot per year between 1845-1851. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), both sides relied on ammunition to win battles. The Union used munitions such as shot, powder and cannon ball to defeat Confederate forces at Bull Run (July 1861), Antietam (September 1862), Gettysburg (October 1863) and Vicksburg (January 1865). In addition to supplying armies with munitions, Boydell also manufactured explosives for mining operations and other industrial uses. After the Civil War ended, many companies ceased production due to competition from imports from Europe and Asia. However, two large firms did not fold until around 1920: Armour & Co., which manufactured cannons for the British military; and Browning & Company which manufactures rifles throughout North America including Canada and Mexico City . Browning & Company eventually became part of Remington Arms Company . In 1928-1929Ashland's first commercial gun show took place at the fairgrounds adjacent to town hall . Over 120 exhibitors exhibited firearms from across Oregon , Washington state , California , Nevada brought together under one roof for what was then termed "the greatgunshows". This event helped establishAshland as an important center for gun culture in Oregon . Gun shows continued to be held annually until 1985 when they were replaced by WesternGun Shows

Ashland is a town in Clatsop County, Oregon, United States. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of thePortland metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Ashland were fur traders and prospectors working for George Vancouver in the 1810s. They named the land "Oregon" after King George III of England, who had been released from prison in 1787 and visited Portland. As early as 1848, residents of what is now Ashland were petitioning the government to annex their community to Oregon; no action was taken until 1859 when an act by Congress allocated lands east of the Willamette River to create Clatsop County. In 1862, John Sutter built his sawmill on what became Sutter's Island near present-day downtown Ashland. His mill created a demand for lumber that led to development of other businesses such as hotels and stores around town during the late 19th century and into the 20th century. The first post office in Ashland was established on December 12, 1853, with Wm Halsey as its first clerk. A courthouse was erected in 1865 but it burned down in 1865 and never functioned again; replaced instead by a schoolhouse which still stands today (allegedly haunted). In 1886, residents voted 25-1 to change their name from Oregon City to Ashland because they felt more populous than Oregon City and desired closer ties with other communities within Clatsop County. The name change took effect on January 1st of that year. The town experienced some economic decline during World War II due to heavy reliance on military production; however, by 1945 Ashley had recovered sufficiently enough so that it became an agricultural center once again producing hay for local livestock and grains for local consumption or export according as coffee beans or flour for breadmaking purposes - all major markets then located outside of Portland proper at that time (the coffee beans moving inland towards Hillsboro beginning in 1949). Afterward many small businesses closed up shop while larger ones continued operations but grew less profitable due largely to changes brought about by post-war technology which made goods like tires easier available domestically while making exports much harder - making Ashley one of several towns throughout western Oregon struggling economically during this time period despite being well situated geographically speaking within easy commuting distance both north/south and east/west depending upon where you lived - something not really seen anymore until quite recently thank heavens!
