A post office called Albany was established in 1850, and served until 1907. The first store opened in Albany on December 3, 1851. The town's first mayor was James Purdy. In 1865–1866 an experimental road called Spirit River Road was built through what is now Albany from Portland to Stevenson City; however it failed due to severe weather conditions and did not become fully operational until 1870). In 1888–1889 a large water tower/ pumping station for city water service was erected near downtown; this facility continues operation today as part of Pioneer Courthouse Square Park District museum complex. A school district named Multnomah County School District No 9 opened its doors at rural Senterfold Avenue corner for students from rural areas aroundMultnomah County starting September 1st 1915 when all children within 5 miles ofthe center went into public Schools and each family got their own home tax assessment number which they kept track of like Family Tree photos! In 1963 Community Services Center (CSC) opened its doors providing social services including Welfare & Senior Services since 1978! This building also housed fire fighting equipment during times of emergencies such as floods or earthquakes! After many years with many changes our current building which houses most modern kitchen & bathrooms came about after we lost our CSC building in 2003!! Thank you History Buffs for your help !!

In 1932, the city passed another ordinance establishing daycare facilities for parents with young children.
