Albany, Oregon is a small town in Southern Oregon with a population of about 350. Albany was founded in 1872 by pioneers who were inspired to move to the area after hearing about gold prospects in California. The town has since grown and become known for its agriculture, tourism, and small-town atmosphere. Albany is located on the border of the states of Oregon and Nevada. The town was originally built on land that had been acquired from the Umpqua Tribe by General George Custer during his campaign against Chief Joseph Klamath in 1876. The town was named for General Custer’s home state of New York, which he had visited while on military duty in India. After General Custer’s death, his widow donated the land to Albany as a gift to her husband’s people. The first settlers arrived in Albany in 1872 and started farming the land around what is now downtown. By 1880, there were about 10 families living in Albany. In 1898, construction began on what would become the first courthouse in Oregon; it was completed two years later at a cost of $2,200. As Albany grew into an agriculturally based community, it became necessary to build a transportation system for goods and people coming into or going out of the community. This led to the development of a road system that still exists today; it is called “Old Highway 12” because it once connected Albany with Bend, Oregon over Route 12A (now Interstate 5). The original Road 12 also served as an important artery through which passengers could travel between Sacramento County and Eastern Oregon during logging days; this activity stopped when logs became too heavy to be transported by wagon or truck. In 1903, regulations were passed requiring farmers within 3 miles (5 km) of any city or village must provide milk for local consumers; this required building dairy farms outside of Albany so that milk could be produced without farmer's having to journey directly into cities or villages where prices were high. In 1916, agricultural production ended completely within 3 miles (5 km) of any municipality boundary; this change was due largely to World War I which devastated agriculture throughout most Western Europe including America; however, no such devastation took place within 3 miles (5 km) of any other American city or village due to federal regulation prohibiting such activities near urban areas at that time

Albany, Oregon is a town in Clallam County, Oregon, United States. The population was 2,609 at the 2010 census. Albany is part of the Portland metropolitan area. It first settled in 1851 when a group of farmers led by John W. Sauer movement west to the Willamette Valley and found land east of present-day Albany on what is now the north side of Interstate 5. They named their new community after Albany, New York City. In 1872, the Pacific Railroad reached Albany and began to build tracks through it; this caused some growth and development but also brought about problems that persist to this day such as high school enrollment being below average and an inadequate water supply for industry or homes. In 1907, Albany became a city with its own mayor and council; however, due to low population numbers it reverted back to a village in 1933 when its boundaries were changed back to their original township form following incorporation into Clallam County. In 1981, pursuant to Measure 97%, voters approved annexing portions of Vancouver and Hood River counties (to form Multnomah County) so that Albany would become part of that county's largest city; however this plan was vetoed by then-Governor Neil Goldthwait because he felt populous areas within Multnomah County should remain separate from his state's capital city. This situation persisted until 1987 when Measure 98% was passed which doubled the size of Albany from its current 2 square miles (5 km²) to 4 square miles (10 km²). Despite much effort later on by Mayor Vicki Hinckley and members of her staff including Deputy Mayor Jeff Kapplestone – who served as interim mayor from January 1st through December 31st – Comprehensive Plan Revision No.(CPR-87) adopted on September 25th 2007 increased the size once again from 4 square miles (10 km²) up to 8 square miles (20 km²). With both increasing sizes came more expenses associated with maintaining these enlargements as well as providing services necessary for larger populations: schools were added as an explicit component of CPR-87 but despite years’ worth of planning they still do not meet all needs resulting in poor student achievement rates coupled with increasing homeless encampments inside City limits which have created public safety concerns since early 2015 . Despite these issues many businesses continue operations within City limits despite tax challenges while others have left due lackadaisical attitude towards preserving much cherished cultural heritage such as murals dating back over 100 years A recent example is Stonington Brewing Company which announced plans last year for relocation outside City Limits effective October 1st 2017 after 10 years located just south off I-5 next door had been struggling with financial instability since 2011 A move like this would have meant losing access to key production grounds unique among Puget Sound breweries After much outcry from residents & business owners alike #AlbanyOregON
