This location made it convenient for traders and travelers because it had a portage path linking Bass Lake with Clearwater River, making it easy to get goods and supplies needed for life on the Central Oregon Trail. When new owners took over control of Albany in 1912, they decided to change its name to honor their ancestors who had settled there earlier – Alexander Graham Bell, James Kapp (the founder of Kapp’s Coffee), and George Washington Carver – all natives of Canada. They also decided to build a school and a store on Main Street which still stands today as one of the few remaining buildings from before 1912. The community flourished during World War II because many local residents worked on military construction projects around Portland or served in the war effort overall. After wars ended and economic prosperity returned to Albany in the early 21st century, growth slowed but never stopped due to strong local demand for housing and shopping opportunities available within walking distance of everything else like restaurants and stores.
