Yukon, Oklahoma is a town in Comanche County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name of Yukon is derived from the Cree word "yaktanka", meaning "place where buffalo grazed." The first settler in what is now Yukon was James McGillivray who arrived in 1885. The town was founded on June 10, 1890 by gold prospectors led by George Wickenburg and Charles Goodyear. In 1907 an act were passed to organize a school district and after two years of effort the district was organized on April 15, 1909 with James McGillivray as Superintendent and John Haskins as President. In 1915 an ordinance providing for election of board members Was passed and Elisha Hutchings became Board member at the request of Mayor McKinney which made him assistant superintendent until 1923 when he became sole headmaster. In that year Yukon had its own hospital with Drs J C Snyder and A F Rankin being appointed directors In 1935 an act were passed creating a city government within Comanche County which designated Yukon as its seat; however it never took full form until 1937 when Mayor McKinney recommended that it should be annexed to Tulsa Since then it has always been administered through the City Hall located in downtown Yokone A new library building opened in 1984 which replaced an old wooden building The current mayor is Ron Tate with much work still left to be done such as expanding transportation options and increasing development opportunities

This treaty made Oklahoma an addition to congressional District 11 (present-day Tulsa), meaning that area would be divided among several congressmen rather than being given to one individual at random. As part of this process, Congress awarded 4 square miles (10 km2) of land east of present day Yukon to John Custer for his services during the Civil War and for other virtues such as bravery and patriotism. This piece of land is now called Custer Hill because it is located near where he fought against Native Americans on November 25th 1876 during what is now known as Custer's Last Stand outside Haskell County OK
