In 1912, a post office was established at Cache Valley and by 1916, there were six settlements with a total population of about 150 people. By 1919, only one settlement remained - White Sulphur Springs - but it continued to grow rapidly due to mining activity and prostitution around Cache Valley. In 1925, white settlers organized an agricultural society which grew corn and wheat for local markets and processed hides for boots and shoes; later this became a hotel/grainshop operation called "The Honest Kernel". In 1928-29 white settlers erected two log cabins (later known as "The Old Yukon") on the south side of the river near present day White Sulphur Springs; these became home to both men who worked for mines (the first blacksmiths) as well as their families during winter months while they mined coal orlead out of hills east of Cache Valley across Buffalo Gap Creek bedrock until 1938 when all resources were exhausted leaving just men working underground including Geologists like Henry Woltz who named what he found Virginian Hill after his old Virginia home
