Yukon is a small town in the US state of Oklahoma. It was founded in 1907 by settlers from Russia and Alaska. The population was 5,000 at the time of the 2010 census. Yukon is located on the Yukon River, about halfway between Tulsa and Rapid City, South Dakota. The first permanent settler in what is now Yukon was Ivan Kotschin, who arrived with his family in 1907. He named his new land after his native Russian village of Yoshkar-Tsaikovo (formerly Gatchina). At that time, there were only a few hundred Russians remaining in North America. In 1910, another Russian settler, Nikolai Yakushevitch Shklovsky, arrived from Siberia with his family. He named his new community after himself – Shklovaya or "Russian Bay". In 1912, another Russian settler named Pyotr Anichkovitch Belyaev arrived from Siberia with his family and erected a log cabin near present day Main Street. This became known as Belyaev's Fort. In 1915, two more Russian immigrants - Aleksandr Fyodorovich Brusilov and Ivan Petrovich Uvarov - came to Yukon to work on a coal mine near present day West End Boulevard and White Sands Road. They constructed a millrace called the Uvarova River which later became part of the Yukon River system underground. By 1922, all but one of the original Siberian settlers had died or moved away; most had emigrated to Canada due to World War 1 hostilities there against Russia (the last emigrant left for Canada in 1918). However some families remained behind including those of Dmitry Ioffe and Natalia Tchernaya who founded an agricultural settlement at Stroudsburg Creek east of town where they raised chickens until 1951 when it was abandoned due to development nearby; today's Eastside Mall is located on this property . The Ioffe/Tchernaya Colony eventually produced over 1 million eggs which continue to be sold every year by local farmers around town .
