As production increased, so did social tensions between locals and outsiders over access to resources, poverty among those living below subsistence levels (due largely to natural disasters like floods or hurricanes), environmental degradation (due mostly to mining operations), jobs lost because industries closed down or moved away (resulting in an overall decrease in standard of living), and political instability (due partly to demographic changes). As a result of these factors, crime rates soared throughout much of The Gold Rush era; by 1915 they had reached levels not seen since Prohibition days before America entered World War I. However, with advances in law enforcement techniques following World War II there has been a steady decline over time - currently only 2% occur above normal live crime rates
In 1907, the Yukon Territory was created from parts of the Northwest Territories. It was named for the Yukon river. The first people to live in the territory were the Inuit.
