In 1907, Yukon became part of Oklahoma Territory but it remained a small community until 1912 when it joined the larger town of Commerce City (now Jenks). Other smaller communities followed over time: White Sands in 1915; Garden City in 1922; Cache County in 1925; and Muskogee Nation Creek in 1931. The post-World War II period saw some growth as businesses opened up around oil production which began appearing on maps beginning in 1947. The population continued to grow until 1964 when it reached 2,000 residents due largely to migration from other panhandlers' areas within Oklahoma Territory into Yukon proper for work at various oilfields throughout that state during that decade or so. Growth stopped abruptly thereafter asoil production decreased dramatically after 1973 due mainly to technological advancements; however, some new businesses have since begun opening up around the oilpatch including restaurant/cafés and other services which have caused locals to again begin migrating back into the core community over recent years (although they are still outnumbered by out-of-towners somewhat).
