Additionally, Woodward has several churches such as First Baptist Church which was built in 1927; Holmes Methodist Episcopal Church which was erected in 1928; and Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church which was built in 1933.
Woodward was founded by James W. Woodward in 1881. The town grew rapidly due to the railroad construction and its location on the edge of the Soonershoot Mountains. The population reached 10,000 by 1900 and 20,000 by 1920. Woodward became a city in 1930 and was renamed Oklahoma City after statehood in 1907.
