In 1928 John Woodward purchased land located east of present-day Tulsa on which he erected what is now known as the OKC Tower; this building would serve as the first skyscraper inOKlahoma City.(1) The following year saw another landmark accomplishment for Mr. & Mrs. Woodward when they were awarded approval from city planners to build their home on top of that structure.(2) Woodward quickly established himself as one of Tulsa's most prominent attorneys and built up a large personal fortune through real estate speculation and investments over several decades.(3) During this time period Tulsa experienced significant growth both economically and socially due largely to technological advances associated with World War II - particularly through new businesses such as car dealerships, aircraft manufacturers and armament manufacturers.(4) While Mr. & Mrs. Woodward continued To play an instrumental role within these industries during their retirement years - notably leading efforts to establish Tulsa Community Federal Credit Union (TCFCU), which remains one of Tulsa's preeminent financial institutions today - they are best remembered today for their philanthropic donations towards various causes including oklahomans affected by natural disasters such as hurricanes Katrina/ Rita (2002), WildEarth Guardians (2005-2007), tornado recovery efforts following tornadoes that struck Moore(5)and Guthrie(6)in 1999-2000 - all while remaining active members of TCFCU executive committee until her death earlier this year.(7)

The first general store opened in Woodward on December 1, 1907 under license from the State Department of Agriculture and Markets at 719 Northwest Third Street. Alfred Pyle had built a small grocery store there before he moved to Haskell County to open a general store there in 1909-10; but this store failed when he sold his interest to John Haney some time after opening it because of competition within the community led by local men such as Pyle himself
