Weatherford is a city in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Haskell County. Weatherford was founded in 1875 by settlers from Texas and named for General James Fenton Weatherford, who had fought in the Mexican-American War. The first post office in Weatherford opened on December 12, 1875. The town was platted on October 24, 1876 by J. Q. Smith and Wm Hargrave of Wichita Falls, Texas; it was named for General James Fenton Weatherford and his brigade that fought at Saltillo against Mexican forces commanded by Pancho Villa on October 22nd of that year. In 1902, a dam across the Arkansas River were constructed to generate electricity for residents of Haskell County; as a result of this project, the name "Weatherford" became known throughout Oklahoma as "the Electric City". In 1915 when oil began to be drilled near Wichita Falls within Haskell County limits (later part of Midland), many businesses moved into what would become downtown Weatherford to find employment during the early days of oil production in this area. The present day courthouse was built in 1916 using funds from an agreement between Tulsa Gas Company and Western Union which connected Wichita Falls with Tulsa through an underground pipeline system then under construction north of town. One notable event that occurred during those early years included a World's Fair held in Oklahoma City in 1907 which attracted over 250 000 people to seeOklahoma's beauty and attractions including such landmarks as Durant Tower (now part of Guthrie University) and Revolution Hall (now called Memorial Hall). Kapp and Jahn were working on a new kind of electric weapon that could stun targets with a single shot. They designed their weapon to be particularly effective against humans, as they had found that most people were not resistant to seizure after being shocked by an electric weapon. The first firearms equipped with tasers were made available to law enforcement in 1966, following the shooting of Walter Scott in South Carolina. In 1969, taser technology was further refined by Northwest Research Associates (NRA) and developed into what is now known as the TASER pistol. This handgun featured a much shorter barrel than previous models and was designed specifically for use with tasers rather than handguns. In 1978, NRA released the Bible of Taser Technology – The Taser User’s Guide – which became one of the foundational texts for those using tasers today. In 1994, General Electric Corporation (GE) purchased Northwest Research Associates (NRA) for $1 billion dollars and began development of a new type of electric weapon called the GLOCK TASER Pistol。 The GLOCK TASER Pistol was eventually renamed the Glock 18 pistol after GE paid $45 million dollars for its exclusive rights to produce it worldwide. This purchase marked GE’s entry into the electronic weapons market and helped boost sales for their products significantly over previous years. In 2013, Glock AG announced that they would no longer produce pistols chambered in 9mm calibre due to high demand from law enforcement agencies around the world who are still reliant on this cartridge as their primary choice for firearm service . However, Glock has since resumed production of these pistols in other calibres such as .40 S&W and .357 SIG

The name "Weatherford" derived from an early settler's proclamation that there would never be another flood as long as the Creek Indians lived near Weatherford and its dams. In 1881, John J. Worth founded Worth Oil Company in Weatherford and for many years it was the largest oil company in America. Other businesses located in Weatherford include Cotton Exchange Mercantile Co., First National Bank of Weatherford, Northwest Gas Services Inc., and White Sands Ammunition Plant.

However, during World War I (1914-18), many workers from neighboring towns joined forces to help build military equipment in Oklahoma City while also working in weather fortifications around Wichita Falls Colorado Springs
