The Weatherford Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1907. The club met at the old Weatherford jail, which is now a state historic site. In 1911, the club purchased a shotgun from W.H. Brown of Tulsa, Oklahoma and began to shoot at local fairs and exhibitions. In 1913, the club built its first clubhouse on Second Street in Weatherford. In 1915, the club acquired a rifle from Prentice Flickinger of Wichita Falls, Texas. The rifle was used to shoot at local fairs and exhibitions until 1921 when it was sold to Harry Hammond of Fort Worth, Texas who made it his personal gun. In 1922, Hammond donated the rifle to the Warrenton Rifle and Pistol Club which then became the Weatherford Rifle and Pistol Club Incorporated (WRPC). In 1927-1928 WRPC constructed a Range Facility as part of their efforts to improve shooting conditions for members. This ranged facility included an extensive firing range with several hundred feet of firing lane capable of accommodating any type of firearm including rifles, pistols etc., automatic fire pits for training purposes etc., quarters for members living on site etc.. On November 8th 1928 two groups met together on what is now known asrange day; one group consisted of George Sippelbrandt (President), Waldo Hodge ( Vice President), Al Greenlee ( Secretary) J C Floyd ( Treasurer) F E Smith ( Member #1 ), J A Fitzpatrick(Member #2 ) Olin Dooley(Member #3 ), Clarence Sprague(Member#4 ). These gentlemen decided that they would form an organization which would be known as "The Weatherford Rifle & Pistol Club". James Melson became president after these meetings were held and he served until his death on February 14th 1933 . On July 1st 1932 Charles Sprague left WRPC effective due to health reasons . He had been president since July 1st 1931 . On December 15th 1932 Agnes Faust resigned from her position as treasurer because she desired more time for herself within WRPC before entering into another job .
