The Weatherford Rifle Scopes company was founded in 1907 by John P. Weatherford and his brother, George W. Weatherford. The company produced a wide variety of rifle scopes including spotting scopes, objective lenses, reflex sights, and iron sights. In the 1920s, the company developed an automatic riflescope which used a revolving mirror to provide magnification for shooting at long range. The company also sponsored the annual NRA Annual Meeting from 1921 to 1929 and the American Rifleman from 1922 to 1925. In 1936, the company merged with other optics companies to become GeorgeWeatherford Optics Incorporated. The original factory located in Weatherford was closed in 1951 and later demolished. Today, most of the original equipment still remains at GeorgeWeatherford Optics Incorporated’s facility in Okmulgee, Oklahoma City. John P. Weatherford began production of rifle scopes in 1907 as part of his effort to improve firepower for his ranching operations in western Oklahoma Territory. His development of this new type of scope allowed farmers and hunter-gatherers to target their prey with greater accuracy than ever before possible on small game trailsides that were once difficult or impossible to approach without becoming overwhelmed by numerous animals quickly coming up behind you while you were attempting concentrate your fire on one pray alone! In 1916, JohnP.Watervord became president and CEO ofGeorgeWearfare Company; however, production continued at the old weatherfordscope factory until 1951 when it was destroyed by a tornado! Weatherford is a city in Oklahoma, United States. The population was 54,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Weatherford was James Waddell in 1881. The city was founded on November 15, 1907 by Fenton Minton and others from Wichita, Kansas as a small trading post called "Weatherford" on the banks of the Arkansas River. On January 1, 1908, Weatherford became an incorporated town. In 1916 it became a county seat and remains so today with a population of 57,651 people as of 2010. The oil industry played a significant role in both the development and growth of Weatherford over time. Oil production began around 1920 when local man J.B Hargrave drilled a well in what is now downtown Weatherford for Midland Refining Company Limited; ground water supplies were not available to support such an operation at that time). By 1929 there were fifteen wells producing oil in Weatherford; by 1940 only one remained operational- this well being abandoned due to low productivity some years later when other sources of revenue came into play (exportation taxes paid by companies foreign to Oklahoma)). However, during World War II much of the oil production went into support for munitions manufacturing as Oklahoma native George Mitchell helped lead OKLAHOMA LAND COOPERATIVE which produced precision munitions for Allied forces throughout WWII). By 1957 only two wells remained operating out of twenty five originally drilled- these wells becoming known collectively as "The Big Three". However major discoveries have occurred over the past few decades including natural gas fields discovered near McCurtain City and Ponca City while also new pipelines being constructed bringing throughputs up to 800 thousand barrels per day (bpd) to nearby towns like Jenks and Bartlesville! Today weatherford has returned back to its roots with many businesses providing services such as mechanics, plumbers/water contractors etc., making it easy for residents and visitors alike to get involved with their community while enjoying all that it has to offer!
