Weatherford and named after him. The first post office was established in 1881 and the current one was built in 1902. The town of Weatherford first developed when settlers encountered gophers during their trips to trade with eastern Wichita County. Many people traveled to Wichita and other counties on horseback because there were no roads then and it took many days for goods to reach communities such as Weatherford, which developed around a trading post on Old Highway 66 (now Interstate 40). One of the early residents of Weatherford was Wm. Fenton, who arrived from Claremore, Oklahoma Territory in 1881 with his family and began logging operations in what is now the town square area where he built his two-story log house on Main Street about 1896 or 1897 In 1907 an act passed by the state legislature designated Sherman County as part of Indian Territory under territorial laws which did not apply to other states so weatherford continued to be called Claremore until 1912 when it became known as "Weatherford". A post office opened at Weatherford on December 15, 1881, under the name "Claremore", but closed on July 6th due to lack of mail volume After that time local citizens elected a Postmaster General who served until 1889 when they appointed J.D. Weatherfords son John Dickson as Postmaster General which he held until 1913 When Wm.(J)D(erickson) died suddenly without children there followed a dispute over succession that led to three concurrent Postmasters Generals - Wm Henson (1913-1915), Leroy Collins (1916-1920), George Rector (1920-1924) - all serving concurrently until Frank Easley became Postmaster General in 1929 which lasted until 1937 When Harry Ladd became Postmaster General again from 1938 through 1941 When World War II began hostilities against Japan escalated; many civilian jobs were lost due to restrictions placed upon military training by President Franklin D Roosevelt; this created shortages of supplies for manufacturing industries; these shortages caused prices for goods sold within Indian Territory skyrocketing; thus making it difficult for small businesses owners like J(erickson)s father William Fenton III To keep up with costs associated with war production Also during World War II some towns such as Claremore experienced rationing which affected both food and housing

Weatherford is an unincorporated community in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the Arkansas River. The first permanent settler in Weatherford was A.J. Mayo in 1907. Mayo built a log cabin on the site of his present-day home and named it "Mayo Station". In 1912, J.D. Ladd opened a store here and did business until 1955 when he became proprietor of Ladd's Auction House In 1951, John Fenton leased 2,000 acres (800 hectares) of land to the Haskell County Extension Service for development as a cotton planting area called "Fenton Field". The original town name was changed to Weatherford in 1957 by ordinance of the State Board of Education after its incorporation into Haskell County as a village under that name The climate in Weatherford is humid subtropical with severe weather events becoming more common during certain times of year including thunderstorms and tornadoes which can injure or kill people
