Gun triggers have a long and intricate history in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Trigger mechanisms were first patented in 1878 by developer A.J. Weeks and his assistant W.H. Barnes. The Weatherford massacre happened on November 15, 1948, when a group of men and boys under the age of 10 were shot and killed by members of the Wichita Rifle Club at a family gathering in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The shooting was part of an ongoing cycle of violence that had been taking place in the town for years.
Weatherford is a city in northeastern Oklahoma, United States. The population was 24,853 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Will County. Weatherford was founded in 1881 by settlers from Texas and named for Vandalia, Ohio, which they reached via stagecoach on July 4, 1881. The first post office in Weatherford was established on December 12, 1881. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location near the Canadian River and other transportation routes. In 1915, an oil well was drilled in nearby Wilburton and production begancommercializing oil in Weatherford early that year. A large refinery soon followed and production continued to grow during World War I; however, because of prohibition the oil industry could not continue until 1919 when it became state-owned under the auspices of the Oklahoma Fuel Board In late 1920s a new water tower was built east of town to serve residents who lived along the Matagorda River north of town (now part of Tulsa). The community had grown so much that it needed its own school district by 1923; this district became known as Wichita Falls Independent School District and still serves students there today During World War II downtown streets were renamed MacArthur Boulevard after General George Smedley MacArthur – one of America’s most decorated military veterans – while other streets were changed such as Main Street to recognize local businesses or citizens who had made contributions to society such as noted physician Dr. John Hodge Oil production ceased after WWII but weatherfacilities remain active providing services such as power generation and cooling towers for industries including aluminum smelting The current name given to Weatherford comes from Battle Creek Road which led northeast from town towards Enid where Union army troops briefly stopped before continuing their march into Canada on July 4th 1865 during what is now called " Battle Creek Day" . After being abandoned for many years following that battle a groupof locals decided it would be fun to name their new community "Weatherford"

However, by 1930, the population had decreased to 2,500 people due to illness and World War II. The town continued to decline until it officially ceased operations in 1957. Today, only a few remains of the original community stand within the boundaries of the town limits. Weatherford was founded in 1881 by Wiley A. Weatherford and his brother, John W. Weatherford. The brothers were the first white men to settle in the area that is now Oklahoma. The town was named for a creek that ran through it. In 1907, the city of Weatherford was renamed for General George Custer, who had been killed in action at the Battle of Little Bighorn on July 25, 1876.
