The fort served as a blocking force against Mexican attack on American forces at Santa Fe Trail junction near present day Midtown Tulsa on November 27, 1836. In 1907, referendum passage passed for a new city charter which allowed for growth eastward across County Road 21 from Yukon to northward along Creek Road towards Marengo Hills and westward to Canadian Boulevard/Broadway Heights (later North Central Boulevard). Growth continued until World War II when black residents moved into white neighborhoods west of downtown and white residents moved into black neighborhoods east of downtown after integration through busing programs begun under Mayor John Whelan during World War II aerial bombing raids against Japanese targets in WWII
In 1907, the first post office in Tulsa opened. The town was named for Andrew Jackson Tulsa, a United States Senator from Tennessee. It was officially incorporated on November 3, 1907. In 1911, the Tulsa Volleyball Club was founded and became one of the first volleyball clubs in the United States.
