In 1970, the Tulsa Gun Owners Association (TGOA) organized a meeting to discuss creating a Gun Safe Committee to improve security at city facilities including police stations and fire departments In 1974, TGOA formed its own board including nine members: Dick Reynolds (Chairman), Al Pritchett (Vice Chairman), Don Payne (Secretary/Treasurer), Walt Atkinson (President/CEO), Rick Meyers (Member #1), Rick Meyers (Member #2) John Sprague(Member #3). At this meeting it was decided that TGOA would provide security services at all city government buildings until such time as someone else became elected chairman who would then appoint a committee member from each business district within the city limits

In 1912, Wernher von Braun began working at Armstrong Aircraft Company with Orville Wright before becoming an owner/founder of American Aviation Corporation (AAC) two years later. In 1928, AAC merged with Kelly Aircraft Company to become United Airlines Corporation (UAL). AAC soon became one of America's leading airlines with its own passenger terminals at four airports throughout Tulsa metropolitan area: Terminal 3 at Owen Field near downtown; Terminal 4 on Main Street south of Central Park; Terminal 5 north of Midtown Center; and Terminal 6 along First Avenue east from downtown into Osage Hills neighborhoods southeast of campus across from IHOK Arena football stadium (now known as University Of Arkansas campus). During World War II, Tulsa served as headquarters for U.S Army Air Forces Third Air Force during Operation Torch amphibious assault landing on Spanish Morocco April 8–15 1942 that resulted in Allied forces liberating North Africa from Axis control
