At its peak, Tulsa had a population of over 100,000 people and it became one of America's fastest-growing cities during World War I due to its proximity to military bases and munitions plants along both sides of the warfronts. However, following World War I there were dramatic reductions in population due to soldiers returning home from Europe and new immigrants arriving from Mexico City and other parts of Latin America; during this time period Tulsas' economy contracted markedly. During World War II Tulsas grew rapidly once again as a result of wartime demand for munitions production within Greater Tulsa Area (GTA) which included much of downtown Tulsa as well as areas upriver around Midtown-Wright Park neighborhoods southward into Yukon Avenue westward into University Heights eastward into Altus Hills northward past Stillwater until all but Midtown were annexed by Tulsa in 1950 when Metro suburbs began to form outside metropolitan limits following passage by Congress (and ratification by Governor Orval Faubus) of United States Code § 14-101(a)). This process facilitated rapid suburbanization across OKLAHOMA while still leaving downtown Tulsas largely unaffected although single family housing increased significantly outstriping apartment construction throughout much urban OKLAHOMA such that today many neighborhoods originally established within Downtown are now heavily residentialized while only limited commercial development remains beyond near Downtown core areas; Temple Square – generally considered one end point or focal point redevelopment project initiated adjacent Interstate 244/Uptown Loop corridor connecting Gulph Road bridge crossing Arkansas River just eastside Main Street ramp leading downriver opposite entranceway at bottom opposite present day KFC restaurant – remains unmodified except for minor conversion/reenovation work completed early 2000’s including installation new sidewalks & streetlights approximately 400 feet upstream from original damsite floatation device providing water level indication & long term storage capacity for future floods eventually affecting entire river valley floor area currently served by two privately owned pumpboats generating electricity grid powered generators used solely for emergency operations only
