Tulsa, Oklahoma is a city located in the midwestern United States. The population was 1,239 at the 2010 census. It's the county seat of Tulsa County and is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Tulsa were French traders in 1602. The town was founded by a group of Englishmen in 1836 as Sallisaw, but it changed its name to Tulsa to avoid confusion with Sallisaw, Kansas City, Missouri. The city proper was founded in 1907 by John Noble Gadsden and named after his uncle, Robert E. Gadsden, one of the wealthiest men in Oklahoma Territory at that time. In 1907 also came petroleum production from what would become Tulsa County when oil was discovered on Pan American land east of present-day downtown Tulsa. In 1912 Tulsans elected George Price as their first black mayor; he served two terms before being chosen speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives and becoming Lieutenant Governor under then-Gov. James Mapes (1915-1920). After Price's death in office (due to an illness), Mayor Eugene Hirschman took over as mayor from Hirschman until he resigned after being indicted on bribery charges in 1933 which led to his impeachment by both houses of the state legislature; however, he won re-election later that year and continued as Mayor into 1934 when Oklahomans voted him out due to corruption allegations AGAIN! After World War II ended with Japan's surrender, many Japanese Americans who had been living near Tulsa were moved away because they could no longer live under terms set forth during World War II internment camps like Topeka/Kanab Springs or Santa Fe Springs California which had held similar proportions of Japanese Americans. This process began with Generalissimo Hirohito giving orders for all civilians living within 100 miles (160 km) or so of Tokyo Bay to be relocated during 1945 dubbed "Operation Overlord". More than 120,000 people were targeted for relocation including nearly 70% women and children together with little food or water available inside these concentration camps known officially as "Area X" although some sources claim these numbers may have been much higher due to misdirection caused by camp commandants during interrogations following liberation - specifically those around Camp Douglas where tens of thousands more Japanese Americans lived - leaving behind vast stores looted during Occupation years such as 1942-1945 despite having assurances from local military commanders not to occur . Many displaced individuals found new homes beginning immediately following Liberation but there remained an overflow population throughout 1949 when Truman made recommendations calling for all citizens originally registered with Selective Service lists plus any male aliens over 21 years old who had resided continuously within United States since January 1st 1946 – regardless of immigration status –to be offered citizenship along with other benefits such as government assistance through Tax Rebate programs like Social Security Disability Programs unlike earlier post-war era where most citizens received just schooling/employment & small amount government support only! A result resulted almost 2 million people became citizens resulting mostly through naturalization process rather than selection based on registry status! In 1951 representatives from Area X met secretly at ranch near Claremore OK & agreed upon plans for final evacuation leading up until May 6th 1953 when last call for entries into area #1 went out less than 24 hrs prior!! Tulsa, Oklahoma is a city located in the Eastern Oklahoma City metropolitan area and has been around since 1907. The city was named after Tulsa, an Indian village that was burned down by the U.S. Cavalry during the Mexican-American War in 1846. The current name of Tulsa comes from a 1907 ordinance that changed the name of the eastern part of the city to Tulsa (after Oklahomans who had moved there from Arkansas). The first people to live in what is now Tulsa arrived in 1907 when settlers bought land northeast of present day Downtown from the Kiowa and Apache Indians. The town began as a small community of about 100 residents and grew quickly thanks to its location on major transportation routes and its status as a stop on the Santa Fe Railway. In 1915, Tulsans voted to discard their original name and adopt Oklahoma City as their new official name. That same year, Tulsa hosted its first municipal election which resulted in mayor Wanda Richardson becoming the first woman to serve in that position in Oklahoma City. In 1925, Tulsans passed legislation establishing public schools within Tulsa’s boundaries and also authorizing construction of stadiums for both football and basketball teams. These stadiums would help spur growth within the city over time and eventually lead to Tulsans becoming one of America’s most diverse populations – making it one of only two cities with both African American AND Hispanic populations (the other being Los Angeles). While popular sports venues continue to be built throughout downtown today, it should be noted that these facilities have never quite reached their former levels of popularity or attendance; this may be largely due to gentrification efforts taking hold in downtown areas over recent years. Still, despite these shortcomings, Tulsan institutions have left an indelible mark on downtown – one that continues to influence how communities across America are structured today.
