Tahlequah, Oklahoma is a city located in the eastern part of the US state of Oklahoma. The population was 26,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Stephens County. The city is named after Tecumseh, an American Indian leader who fought for independence from Mexico. The first gun case made in Tahlequah was for a Thompson rifle that was confiscated by the sheriff's department. A man named Waddell made and sold cases of guns to farmers in town during the early 1800s. In 1875, Jameson & Co., merchants on Commercial Street, started making cases for revolvers and shotguns and selling them to Local dealers across the State line. In 1907, Nevada Rifle Works began producing pistols in Tahlequah as part of their manufacturing program for firearms produced by Smith & Wesson Corporation under license from George Pease (of Pease Firearms Company). In 1912-13, John Manton (a local farmer) became one of the incorporators and directors of Nevada Rifle Works. He helped direct production until his death in 1922; during his tenure, NRA produced more than 5500 pistols including many prototypes which are still extant today including a “T” shaped grip safety catch that remains unique to this model pistol! After Manton’s death NVWR continued production until 1934 when it merged with Colt Manufacturing Company to form Colt Firearms Corporation! The company manufactured handguns into 1937 but resources were diverted towards World War II munitions production! Today private citizens own and operate 4 manufacturers registered handguns within 3 states: Alaskan Malamute Arms Inc., Chiappa Firearms Inc., Daniel Defense Industries LLC., and Republic Armory LLC.; these manufacturers offer customers a wide variety of handgun models including police or self-defense weapons with serial numbers beginning with 9mm Luger/Pistol magazines holds up to 180 rounds per magazine! ATF has also registered these handgun companies through NICS since 1978; however there has been very little activity involving these companies over recent years because they have been concentrating on manufacturing rifles instead!!!
