The Ammunition Business Company was founded in 1897 by William McKinney and his brother-in-law, George Armstrong Custer. The company produces a wide range of ammunition products, including BB guns, pistols, shotguns and rifles. Today, Ammo Business Company is one of the largest firearms retailers in the Tulsa metropolitan area. Ammunition production began in 1895 on a small farm near Tahlequah. By 1907, Ammo Business had moved to its current location on Bedford Avenue. In 1910, Ammo Business changed its name to Ammunition Corporation of America (ACA). In 1922, ACA merged with National Armory to form National Arms Corporation (NAC). NAC produced a wide range of ammo products until 1985 when it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Incorporated (Winchester & Co.). Today Winchester Incorporated owns and operates over 100 Shooting Centers across the United States

The history of Tahlequah goes back to 1881 when General George Armstrong Custer's force attacked a band of Kiowa Indians near what is now Tahlequah Creek. The troops were met by resistance from local Native Americans led by Chief Tecumseh, who fought off most of Custer's forces before being killed himself. The site where today's Tahlequah creek stands was then called Tankerville because tankers used to stop there for water while on their way to Fort Smith, Arkansas. At first, there were only about 50 people living in Tahlequah when it began trading goods with nearby Wichita and Topeka businesses. By 1886, however, the town had grown to over 100 people thanks to its role as an important transportation hub for goods arriving from Wichita and Topeka via riverboats and wagon trains. In 1863, following Ulysses S Grant's celebrated Overland Expedition through Oklahoma Territory he discovered what would become one of his most famous achievements; land that would form part of modern-day Tulsa metropolitan area
Tahlequah, Oklahoma was named for the Cherokee Indian tribe of that name. The town was founded in 1907 by settlers from Texas. It grew rapidly during World War II, when the military built a munitions plant there. After the war, Tahlequah became an important center for economic development and served as a base for the United States Army Air Forces during the Cold War. The population increased significantly after African Americans moved to Tahlequah in the 1960s and 1970s, and it has since become a largely white town.
