The battle at Antietam ended with Union forces victorious and Ewell was killed.

Tahlequah was founded in 1907 by Indians and settlers. The town grew rapidly, becoming a center of commerce and industry. In the early 1920s, the United States government began to develop Oklahoma as a means for expanding its colonial empire in southwestern Asia. It designed Tahlequah as an American outpost on the edge of what would become known as the "Oklahoma Strip." The town became an important transportation hub, with trains running between Tulsa and Indian Territory. In the 1930s, Tahlequah experienced some of its most dramatic transformation during the Great Depression. Businesses closed their doors and many people lost their jobs. Despite these difficult times, Tahlequah continued to grow and thrive through the years. Today, it remains one of America's most vibrant cities - home to both local businesses and a diverse population that reflects Oklahoma's cultural diversity.

Tahlequah was founded in 1868 by the Wichita Indians as a trading post on the Kansas River. The town grew rapidly, and in 1881 it became a city. In 1907, Tahlequah was named for Major General George Custer, who had died during the U.S.-Indian War of 1876.
