Stillwater is a small town located in east Oklahoma. It was founded in 1907 by pioneers, the Stillwaters. The community has been home to many businesses and residents since that time. By 1907, there were already several buildings in town – including a post office, schoolhouse, hotel and doctor’s office – all of which remain standing today. Much of Stillwater’s early development came about due to its location at the intersection of two major highways: US-169 (now I-35) and US-41 (now OK- 116).stillwater Creek served as an important transportation artery for goods heading eastward from Tulsa into central Oklahoma Territory and westward to Wichita County across Keystone Lake (now Muskogee Lake). Two other large events that played out around this time were the arrival of Hollywood movie star Norma Shearer in 1907 and World War Iteen years later when local residents erected signs reading “Not For Sale? We are!” This advertising campaign helped set off a civic boosterism that led to increased growth throughouttown over time; by 1922 there were more than 100 businesses operating within2 miles ofthe courthouse square! Oklahoma State Highway No 2 was completed concurrent with US-41 just south of Stillwater during this same era; highway construction continued until well into the 1950s as part of an overall regionalimprovement program designed to improve access to good farmland across eastern Oklahoma Territory via Interstate 20!
