Stillwater is a small town in the panhandle of Oklahoma, located about 150 miles east of Tulsa. The population was 5,812 at the 2000 census. Stillwater is bordered to the north by Muskogee County and to the south by Comanche County. The community is located on the banks of the Arkansas River, about 15 miles northeast of downtown Tulsa. The first people who settled in what is now Stillwater were hunters and gatherers who roamed throughout present-day Oklahoma and parts of Alberta and Mexico during pre-historic times. In 1824, John Wesley Powell passed through this area while exploring western Oklahoma forthe United States government. A creek that empties into the Arkansas River near where Stillwater now stands was named after him in 1827. As early as 1892, there were several businesses in town: one grocery store, two churches (Anglican and Methodist), a barbershop/beauty salon, an insurance company, a post office (operating from 1893 until it merged with Tulsa post office in 1907), two schools (one public and one private), three hotels (two operated by residents and one managed by merchants within town limits), a railroad depot (opened in 1901) used as a depot for stagecoaches between Tulsa and points west until 1949; four cotton plantations; six mining claims; twelve farmsteads; eight residences built before 1900; twenty-six residences built after 1950; thirteen commercial structures erected since 1920 including ten restaurants/cafés, eleven stores/storesmithing establishments, five lumber yards/, four baking shops/, three hat factories/, two printing presses/, one cooperative house (), five residences used for transient purpose only (); sixteen agricultural land parcels.; One hundred fifty acres (.25 mile²) used for recreational purposes only

In the 18th century, there were a number of different types of gun lights that were developed as part of military arsenals and fleets. Some of these models included the light saber light, the pistols’ night sights, and the end-of-the-line reflector light. The first modern type of gunlight was developed in 1892 by George Stephenson and named after him, the Stephenson Gun Light. This model consisted of a small metal Reflector frame with two black powder 3Watt incandescent lamps inside it. The lamp was held above the barrel by a belt or chain around its waist, which allowed it to be easily moved from one weapon to another. The use of this type of gunlight helped improve battlefield visibility during battle scenes. In 1925, Major John Singer set up his own company in London called Singer Manufacturing Company Ltd., which became known as Singer Firearms Limited. Singer Firearms produced three types of gunlights: the Pistol Gun Light, Rifle Gun Light, and Pistol & Rifle Flashlights. These models used an Edison Incandescent Lamp with a white filter to produce an equal amount of light at all distances while preserving battery life. They also featured red front flamethrowers for emergency illumination when needed on dark battlefields or when approaching enemy positions under cover. In World War II, many American weapons manufacturers created special versions specific to Nazi Germany’s Weapons production process such as Uzi Gunsights (Germany) and Browning Automatic Rifles (Uruguay). This added valueadded product enhanced shooting performance while reducing tool usage on combat rifles thereby increasing accuracy potential while engaging targets at longer ranges

Stillwater is a town in Atoka County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. The first post office in Stillwater was established in 1907. It closed in 1951. Stonewater is an anglicized form of still water, meaning "still" and "water" in one word. The first settlers to what is now Stillwater were farmers who arrived by train from Wichita Falls, Texas on November 15, 1907. They named their new community after their home state of Oklahoma and its river, the Canadian River. The settlement initially consisted of just a few families and grew slowly because there were no transportation options available to bring goods and people to the new community. In 1933, the Oklahoma legislature designated Stillwater as a city with full powers to govern itself within limits set by the county government. This designation allowed for more expansive development than had been possible before and helped drive growth over the years. In 1951, when Oklahoma became a state again following World War II, stillwater reverted back to its original name of village until 1974 when it was changed again to town after passage of statutorily-mandated term limits for all towns in Atoka County except for Guthrie which continued under its previous name until 1984 when it also passed term limits and became an independently incorporated city once again
In Stillwater, Oklahoma, the first post office was established in 1885. The city of Stillwater was named for James Fenton, who donated land to the town. In 1907, the city annexed the rural community of Muskogee. The merger created a new city with an population of over 30,000 people. The name change came about because residents of Muskogee were uncomfortable with the name Stillwater and wanted to be called something more unique.
