The hammer was a metal rod with a round head that was inserted into the rear of the gun stock, and the hammer would be pulled back to cock the weapon. This process was repeated numerous times until the hammer hit a reset button on the Hammer drill, which caused the weapon to fire automatically. In 1932, an ordinance was passed in Stillwater allowing residents to own handguns without registration. This allowed citizens to carry firearms without fear of being arrested or having their weapons taken away. The population of Stillwater increased rapidly during World War II, and gun hammers became increasingly popular among Oklahomans. In 1943, a law was passed limiting handgun ownership to individuals over twenty-one years old. Today, gun hammers are still used frequently throughout Oklahoma by both civilians and law enforcement officers. They are also very popular among collectors, as they can offer unique insights into firearm history.

However, after 1945 much manufacturing activity relocated away from McAlester because of cheap oil prices and Kansas' high joblessness rate following World War II; however some small businesses such as Baker-Burke Paper Company remain today within the boundaries of McAlester City limits while larger companies have moved outwards into other towns throughout northeast Oklahoma since then (e.g., Chesapeake Energy Corporation has its headquarters now just outside Tulsa). As recently as 2000s still many people lived close to their jobs or near schools while others commute into larger cities for work opportunities there; however all indications are that this pattern will soon change again given current economic conditions throughout most of Northeast Oklahoma Stillwater's economy has been diversified over time with services becoming more prominent due to growing consumer base around Greater Tulsa region including apartment complexes now being built within town limits while truck stops continue to prosper providing employment along I-40 corridor northward beyond original growth areas such as Walmart Supercenter etc.; however traditional employer/employee ratios remain unchanged with large percentages employed by government entities especially local law enforcement agencies) [1]
