In 1912, the town incorporated and began trading hands among its residents until it became an independent city in 1923 when it annexed the neighboring town of Hutchinson. The city population reached 100,000 by 1930 and 300,000 by 1940. By 1965, Stillwater was renamed Oklahoma City after then-Gov. Farrington P. Baker Jr..
