Shawnee is a small town in Oklahoma, located on the banks of the Arkansas River. The population was 5,859 at the 2010 census. Shawnee is part of the Haskell County seat and is named after Shawnee Creek, which flows through the town. Shawnee was founded by white settlers in 1872. By 1840, however, most of what is now Shawnee had been abandoned due to competition from newly settled towns such as Guthrie (founded in 1836) and oklahoma City (founded in 1847). A few families remained until1871 when US Army Captain Asahel Bremner established nearby Muskogee Trace Station as a military supply depot that served both Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. After being evacuated due to rebel activity near his station, Bremner hired local Native American trader George Rogers Clark to survey his new holdings adjacent to Muskogee Trace Station. When Clark discovered oil reserves within reach of his new village he began construction on what would become ShawnEE – first called simply “Clark’s Colony” – starting with about 200 pioneer farmers who arrived in September 1872. The town prospered rapidly thanks to natural resources such as coal and oil that were accessible nearby; however, World War II interrupted these activities and caused major economic decline that continues today. Before war erupted, many men had left their posts for military service; however by 1945 only 10% of original settler population remained living inland while 90% lived outside of town limits or along railroad lines providing easy access for munitions production throughout central Oklahoma.. Many Shandieans lost their jobs following hostilities including many women who were forced into sexual servitude by Japanese soldiers during combat operations across much of central Oklahoma.. In 1946 Shandieans voted 3-2 not to secede from United States because they felt they could still offer their services without losing their homes or livelihoods.. However some within Shandiean society did leave for greener pastures such as Glendale Heights east side neighborhood where two families moved after voting with 57% no against seceding from US while remaining citizens.. However drastic changes are happening within this small community with young people leaving for out-of-town colleges while older residents are struggling financially even though all schools remain operational inside city limits

The Shawnee tribe is an American Indian tribe located in Oklahoma. The Shawnee Tribe first settled in the area now known as Shawnee County, Kansas, in the 1830s. The Shawnee Tribe was established in 1830 by Chief Kicking Bird and his followers following their departure from what is now Kansas.
