Although holster usage in the Shawnee area has been around since at least 1868, there is little known about the history of holsters in this community. This is due to the fact that Holstermaking and pantsing among Shawnee Indians was a tradition which continued until well into the 20th century. In fact, some of the earliest references to holsters come from Indian Agent George Armstrong Custer’s journal, which noted that “in every village and outlying station we have discovered several pistols (and) revolvers slung over buckskin breeches on horseback”. In 1868, Captain John A. Griggs organized a detachment of United States Cavalry under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Cole for search and rescue operations in Indian Territory. The purpose of this detachment was to suppression any resistance by Native Americans who might be living near military installations. Unfortunately for Captain Griggs, he soon realized that it would be difficult to carry all his equipment with him onto these deployments without either becoming clogged up or getting lost in all the wilderness. He turned to holsters as a possible solution to this problem. One earlyHolstermaker located in Shawnee was Mr. Fenton and Sons (later renamed Fenton & Sons). This company made holster leather products such as belts, cases and straps for both men and horses. One of their most famous products was an invention called the “Custer Hitch” which allowed one man to wear multiple firearms across his chest at once without having them fall off or getlost in between them! Mr. Fenton also manufactured pepperbox pistols which were used by settlers during cattle drive days when they neededto protect themselves from friendly Indians who may try to ambush them while traveling through Sioux Nation territory

Shawnee is a town in Stephens County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 9,857 at the 2010 census. Shawnee is the county seat of Stephens County. The name Shawnee comes from the Sioux word "sha-wannock" meaning "a place where buffalo are bred." The first white settlers in what is now Stephens County were James Waddell and his family who arrived in 1855. They started a store and post office in what is now Vermillion Township. A few years later they built a log cabin on an old Indian Trading Post Road near present-day Shawnee. On February 14, 1861, Waddell married Anna Maria Laughlin and founded the first school in what is now Stephens County - Anson School District No. 1 (now part of Tulsa). In 1865, Mr. and Mrs. Waddell donated land to build the first courthouse in Stephens County - courthouse square today located near downtown Shawnee. In 1871, they also donated land for a jail which served as the county jail until 1907 when it was replaced by the current building on Main Street downtown OKC The early days of agriculture were difficult for farmers because there wasn't much water available to irrigate their crops In 1895 three men from Nampa discovered oil shale under ground in northwestern Oklahoma and leased it to Will Rogers Petroleum Company for $1 per acre This led to increased production andrews shale fields being developed throughout northwest Oklahoma including those around Shawnee By 1906 more than two hundred oil wells had been drilled statewide resulting in thousands of jobs With this increase production came increased prices so farmers began importing food items such as meat from other states which caused some economic recession during World War I . However, with technological advances during World War II General Motors Corporation bought out all remaining Oil Shale leases making northwest Oklahoma an area once again controlled by single families

Shawnee is a city in and the county seat of Grant County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 27,651 at the 2010 census. Shawnee is one of two cities in Oklahoma that were incorporated before 1907. It was named for an early Cherokee chief, Shawnee (hɛn-wah-nee), who lived there from 1828 to 1836. In 1907, it merged with Muskogee to form the present-day city of Shawnee. The first permanent European settler in what is now Grant County was Captain John Emory and his party on July 3, 1830. They traveled along the Arkansas River and camped near what is now Shawnee on July 8th. Captain Emory's party included thirteen men and four women: Mrs. John Crouch (a white woman), Mrs. James McDowell (aboriginal woman/Cherokee), Drs George Washington Smith and Solomon Northrup, Capt’n John McIntosh (Creek Indian), Sam Houston Jr., David Boren (American Indian), Ebenezer Holmes(white man) In 1835–36 Chief ShawnEE moved from his home east of Tulsa to live near Fort Gibson during a time when Cherokee Nation leaders were considering whether or not to sell off their land west of Creek Nation for development into townships by white settlers without Cherokee input or consent – something which many Creek Indians opposed because they saw this as selling them out – likely due to pressure from US military forces operating in that area at the time In 1886, US commissioners decided that Shawnee would be placed within Grant County because its location made it an ideal center for railroad construction; it was also given a charter as a town on December 1st that year Shawnee experienced some growth during World War II when American soldiers stationed there built barracks and other infrastructure necessary for the war effort including several hospitals On November 4th 1951 Mayor Jerald Akins Richards dedicated "Centennial Park" on Main Street adjacent to local high school where residents could come enjoy open air concerts featuring country music performers throughout the year
Shawnee was founded in 1827 by the Shawnee Nation. The town was named for the Shawnee word "shawn" meaning "a place to hunt." The community thrived until 1851, when the Indian Removal Act led to a mass exodus of Native Americans from Oklahoma.
