The Shawnee Rifle Trigger Company was founded in 1907 by George Fenton and his brother-in-law, Moses Brown. The company made triggers for Winchester, Remington, Colt and other firearms. The trigger company merged with the Springfield Armory Company in 1918 to form the Springfield Arms Company. In 1932, the Springfield Armory Company merged with American Arsenal Corporation to create National Firearms Association (NFA). In 1946, NFA merged with Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) to form National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
Shawnee is a small town in eastern Oklahoma, nestled on the Kiowa River. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shawnee County seat of Shawnee. The Shawnee people have been living in this area for centuries and their original land grant wasiland called "Chickasha." In 1828, the Treaty of Tecumseh ended the Indian War and recognized white control over all of Oklahoma. This gave rise to considerable speculation as to what would happen to Chickasha when white settlers arrived in such an unpopulated area. Ultimately, it was decided that it would be abandoned and left unoccupied for future Native Americans to claim as their own. In 1875, Cherokee traders from Kansas City established a trading post nearpresent-day Shawnee. A few years later, Wagon Train National Historic Trailblazer Richard Minton built a cabin here which served as his trading post until he sold it in 1903 to J.D.'s Store Co., which operated it until 1969. In 1907, Hennepin Electric Cooperative began services here and continued providing service until 1984; then KFOR-TV began operations (a UPN affiliate) before being shut down by FCC regulators in 2006 due to its affiliation with CBS Corporation's owned-and-operated network TV stations across America. The first school in Ashley Township was opened on April 15th, 1892 by Mrs..Moses Crouse; this school Servered grades one through twelve. The first high school class graduated from Ashley High School on September 12th 1912 with Mr.(Josephine) Price graduating first female student there! There have been many changes since then including: moving the high school building 2 times (1948 & 1959), adding football/baseball fields (1974), building new buildings (2001), and finally becoming an open enrollment community college with plans for more expansion! Today Shawnee has many businesses such as banks, churches etc...closed or no longer working because of economic conditions or competition from other towns within miles like Edmond Junction....... Today's economy is based mainly on agriculture especially corn oil production.....

The tornado that struck Shawnee on May 18, 1988, caused extensive damage to the community but did not kill any people. Today, Shawnee is home to a museums and galleries as well as several restaurants and businesses.
The Shawnee tribe is one of the largest Native American tribes in Oklahoma. The Shawnee Tribe inhabited the area that now includes Shawnee, OK, and parts of Haskell, OK and Osage, KS from before 1821 to 1881. In 1861, the Kansas Legislature passed a law giving the Wichita tribe exclusive rights to all lands east of the Arkansas River. This land was later taken by the Tulsa tribe and sold off to settlers. The Shawnee Tribe lost their right to claim this land in 1907 when Oklahoma became a state.
