In the early 1800s, Shawnee was one of the most poweful and influential cities in Indian Territory. It was here that the first firearms were designed and built. The guns used by warriors and settlers in this region were all made from crude materials and often had poor accuracy. However, this changed with the arrival of Englishmen who brought firearms to Shawnee in 1836. From then on, pistol-packing Indians began using these weapons to take down their political opponents and defend themselves from raiders. This ushered in a period of Firearms history in Shawnee that is still remembered today.
Shawnee, Oklahoma is a small town in central Oklahoma. The population was 4,409 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskogee County, Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Shawnee community was founded in 1847 by Kiowa and Comanche warriors who had been forced out of their ancestral lands in east Texas by Texan forces. Shawnee built its first post, called "Oglethorpe", on the banks of the Arkansas River. In 1892, however, Shawnee moved its operations to what is now Muskogee County because it felt that Muskogee County lacked enough development opportunities for its citizens. In 1907, Shawnee developed an urban area around its municipal airport and began to build new homes and businesses. In 1959, the city annexed Muskogee County and became one municipality with a population of over 10,000 residents. Today's Shawnee has strong roots as a civic center for both rural and urban communities within its boundaries. The city continues to be home to many major league sports teams as well as several colleges and universities including Baylor University (the largest employer), Southern Methodist University (a Baptist school), US Air Force Base Tinker (serving as Tulsa's main military airbase), and Hope College (established in 1903). The downtown area features a mix of prairie-style architecture dating back to the early 1800s while newer buildings have been erected since then including a shopping mall opened in 2003 anchored by Sears Holdings Corporation and Macy's Department Stores Inc., two golf courses designed by architect Jack Nicklaus Jr., multiple restaurants/bars/cafés/, movie theaters/theaters/arcades/, water parks/ amusement park/, condominiums/,and several thousand residential units developments across three sectors: single family homes; condos;and multifamily housing developments/.

This led to a proliferation of different designs, colors, and sizes available for purchase. In addition, various gangs and militias started using firearms as part of their emblemography. Shawnee is a town in Shawnee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,052 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The Shawnee Territory was ceded to the United States by Great Britain in 1836 as part of the Treaty of Fort Gibson. The first European Americans to visit Shawnee were French traders and Missionaries Antoine de la Salle and Pierre Chouteau in 1837. In 1838, William Sublette founded the towns of Wapello and Osage City on the east bank of Muskogee River near present-day Tulsa. In 1880, John Sibley founded an agency at nearby Choctawhite Creek to trade goods with Indians along what is now Interstate 44. After a three-year absence due to illness, Sibley returned to Shawnee in 1883 and named it after himself. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street and became known as "the Father of Shawnee." When he died in 1888, his son George took over management of Sibley's agency until 1909 when it moved its operations westward to Coweta County under control of the government Indian trust system established by President Grover Cleveland. In 1907, following a land survey that found 1 million acres (500 km2) for agricultural production within modern-day Shawnee County boundaries, James Fenton organized what would become Wichita State University with $5 million from oil millionaire J P Morgan III. Fenton purchased 10 square miles (25 km2) northeast of downtown Shawnee for $10 per acre ($266/km²). On July 21, 1907 – Independence Day – Wichita State University opened its doors with 412 students from 25 states attending its inaugural session which included speeches by President Theodore Roosevelt and General Douglas MacArthur! That same year saw construction begin on what would become campus buildings includingStudent Union Building (now Riley Auditorium), Engineering building (now Morrow Hall), Administration Building (now Klein Arena), Fine Arts building (now Guthrie Center), Physical Education Building (now Kaufman Gymnasium), Business School Building (now Kipling Hall), Women's College Building (later called Fine Arts building; later renamed Women's Health Center; later renamedstill women's health center) and Men's College Building (later known as Science wing). A new high school was also built: Harrison High School which opened October 1st 1927
In 1824, Shawnee was founded by the Potawatomi and Shawnee Chief Pontiac. The town was named for a creek that ran through it. In 1839, the territorial government moved from its original location in Topeka to Shawnee. The first school in Shawnee was built in 1840. In 1868, the first oil well was drilled in Shawnee.
