During World War II, the company made hats for military service members throughout the United States. After the war ended in 1945, the Shawnee Firearms Hat Company ceased operations.

Shawnee is a town in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 9,868 at the 2010 census. Shawnee is one of the fastest-growing towns in the state and it is projected to grow by 10 percent every year until 2040. The city of Shawnee was founded in 1881 by farmers who came from eastern Kansas. The first settler in Shawnee was James Ackerly. He arrived with his family in 1881 and started a farmstead on the east side of what is now Shawnee State Park. Ackerly's children, John and Sarah Ackerly, moved their families to the west side of town in 1883 when they acquired land that became part of today's downtown area. In 1886, William Henson bought 1/4 mile (1 km) of east-west streets from James Ackerley for $30 and named them after his two daughters: Anna (now Oklahoma City) Henson Streets and Melissa Henson Streets. In 1903, Jens Rasmussen founded Rasmussen Glassworks on Wagon Wheel Road north of town and developed a small industry which produced windows for local businesses until World War II when production shifted to coal mine products due to prohibitionism throughout most of America
