One such mill produced flour for many Americans throughout World War I before it went out of business because of technology advances; however, some evidence suggests that coal may have been used as well In 1922, Driggs Paper Company began producing paper products in what would become one of town's most famous businesses In 1948-1949 during World War II Shawneetown served as military headquarters for much of eastern Oklahoma Following America's entry into World War II, thousands more people poured into downtown Muskogee from all over country due to jobs available in defense industries; several banks also opened up with optimism following war-time growth parade attendance increased significantly until violence broke out which eventually closed down most downtown businesses including Driggs Paper Company although later reopened under different ownership . Downtown shops continued to reopen but production ceased at other nearby factories while residents turned inward developing smaller towns around them (Foley-Larson Village), which remain today primarily agricultural with few commercial activities outside those services
