In 1940, sapula Park was developed by John A Funk Jr., Jesse Pooks and others on land donated by Mrs Fessenden Woldenberg and others after they experienced difficulty finding game to hunt during their buffalo hunts in that area. In 1956, sapula Dam was completed with $1 million from Cowboys Club president Sam Houston which impounded water from the Santa Fe River for irrigation use at that point until 1978 when it was sold to Tulsa Power Corporation for$10 million According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land.
