Sapulpa, Oklahoma is a small town in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The population was 5,878 at the 2010 census. The name Sapulpa comes from the Choctaw word "sapo", meaning "to make known." The first settler in Sapulpa was Wm. Hennepin in 1872 and it became a town on February 16, 1902 with a population of 227 people. In 1907, the United States Post Office moved to Sapulpa from Ponca City after that city's incorporation as an OKC Township on November 3, 1906 had been approved by Congress as a way to consolidate post offices serving much of central and northwest Oklahoma Territory into one place while also avoiding duplication of services among various local officials. The new post office operated until 1914 when it was discontinued due to lack of mail volume peaking at over 1 million pieces per day in 1907). In 1915, cornfields were platted for what would become Sapulpa proper which developed around an old sawmill used for milling lumber during early settlement days. The first school building was erected about 1912 and served grades K-4 before being replaced by a school annex built in 1923 which continued to serve grades 5-12 until 1964 when it burned down; however, the replacement brick building still stands today (now used as storage). The first high school building opened in 1951 and currently serves grade 9-12 students; prior to that there were two elementary schools (one closed 1943) and onejunior high school (opened 1952). A post office called Blue Grass served Sapulpa from 1913 until 1954 but no evidence exists that any mail ever arrived there except for requests for letters sent to Blue Grass which are now stored at the OKC Historical Society located adjacent to periodical store Pat O'Brien's location along Main Street west of downtown where pioneer Drury Post lived before he sold his land east of present day State Fair Park to J C French in 1887 which would later contribute $5,000 towards construction of original fairgrounds west side park) . As well as several residences across current day Midtown Boulevard just southwest corner First Avenue north/southwest corner Second Avenue east/west corner between Broadway & Midtown Boulevard ; all pre-1887 buildings have since been demolished or replaced by modern structures including three large shopping malls - Walmart Supercenter (2006), Sam’s Club (2006), eBaum’s Warehouse (2008)). Today only one main street remains – Midtown Boulevard – running through central downtown with multiple business districts offshoot streets surrounding Interstate 35E/I-40W exits directly onto Midtown Blvd.; most businesses closed circa 1990 when I-35E/I-40W bypassed town center altogether making Downtown Sapulpa effectively defunct although some extant shops (& restaurants) still operate albeit at reduced hours due changing demographics & competition from larger mall owners / tenants
